Launched in 1996, the Game Boy Pocket is the first major revision of the original Game Boy by Nintendo. Designed by Gunpei Yokoi's team, it reduces the volume by 30% and the weight by half while retaining full compatibility with the existing Game Boy library. The redesign brings an improved LCD screen without the greenish tint of the DMG-01, with better contrast and reduced ghosting — a recurring criticism of the original. Power goes from 4 AA batteries to 2 AAA batteries for around 10h of battery life. The rigid transparent case supplied with each unit is iconic of the GBP: it also serves as storage for a cartridge. This European version unit is distributed via Grundig AG in Germany ('Trademark used according to agreement with Grundig AG' visible on the packaging). The Silver colour is the launch colour and the most iconic.
