A direct sequel to Super Monaco GP, this title has the unique distinction in F1 video game history of having been co-developed with Ayrton Senna himself — three-time world champion (1988, 1990, 1991) and record holder for wins at Monaco (6 times). The idea came from Sega's Brazilian distributor, Tec Toy, and Senna got personally involved: a 3.5-hour visit to Sega's headquarters in Tokyo, suggestions on driving physics, recording voice commentary for each circuit, and the design of three fictional tracks including his own private circuit at Tatuí, São Paulo. The Game Gear version offers the World Championship mode on the 16 circuits of the 1991 F1 season, a 2-player versus mode, and a choice of gearbox (auto, 4 or 7 gears). Note: the Game Gear version omits the Senna GP mode and adopts a third-person view, unlike the Mega Drive version. The game was never re-released due to the rights linked to Senna's image, which strengthens its appeal to collectors.
