The one that started it all — the original bundle with Tetris
The original Game Boy DMG-01, launched in April 1989 in Japan and in 1990 in Europe, is the handheld console that redefined the mobile gaming market. Designed by Gunpei Yokoi according to his 'Lateral Thinking with Withered Technology' philosophy — using proven, inexpensive components rather than cutting-edge technology — the DMG-01 deliberately chose a monochrome LCD screen without backlight for 30h of battery life on 4 AA batteries, where the Atari Lynx and Sega Game Gear, though technically superior, struggled to exceed 4-5 hours. This Benelux bundle is distributed by BANDAI (the official Nintendo distributor for Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg at the time) and contains the Tetris cartridge, the stereo headphones, the Video Link cable and 4 R6 batteries — full original contents. The console has been retrobrighted: the ABS shell yellowed by the oxidation of the flame retardant has been re-whitened by UV treatment (Retr0bright method), with impeccable results. Operation confirmed on Tetris — sharp screen, correct sound.
