Play It Loud — the rarest colour of the original DMG
In 1994, faced with the rise of the Sega Game Gear and the Atari Lynx, Nintendo launched the 'Play It Loud' campaign — a radically different marketing strategy targeting a teenage audience with deliberately provocative ads and flamboyant colours. Six new colours were introduced: Red, Yellow, Green, Blue, White... and Black. The latter is by far the hardest to find today, especially boxed and in pristine condition. Unlike the other DMG colours whose white ABS yellows irreversibly over time (often requiring a Retr0bright), the black plastic does not suffer from this ageing — which paradoxically makes it the best-preserved-looking version after 30 years. This Benelux DE/FR version unit corresponds to the late packaging with 'Play It Loud' fonts, distinct from the plain 1990 first packaging. Operation confirmed on Tetris, sharp screen, correct sound.
